The Wallabies head into their second Test of a possible Grand Slam as they face Scotland in Edinburgh this weekend. A revitalised Australian squad will be brimming with confidence after dispatching Wales so easily in their opening match of the tour. Scotland, however, are in search of revenge, after the Wallabies controversially knocked them out of last year’s Rugby World Cup at the quarter-final stage. That heartbreak will spur on the Scots as they look to derail any hopes of an Australian Grand Slam Tour.
After struggling for form throughout the winter in both their three Test Tour against England and in the Rugby Championship, that win over Wales has boosted the Wallabies immeasurably. William Hill currently prices them at $1.25 to take victory over Scotland. On paper Australia undoubtedly have the superior squad in terms of world class talent but those players have recently failed to put in the performances. Israel Folau will be one man looking for a big game as he claims his 50th International Cap for the Wallabies. His deadly attack could carve the Scottish wide open.
Despite what many Australians will view as one of the easier Tests that the Wallabies will face on this tour, Scotland can cause them problems. Scottish rugby for many years has struggled to compete with the other tier-one nations but in recent months they have begun to show glimpses of hope. That quarter final appearance and the way they pushed the Wallabies all the way made the rugby world stand up and notice Scotland. Their resurgence has been on the back of an impressive run of form in club rugby with Glasgow excelling and producing talent for the national side. Priced at $4.00 they may have the odds against them but that is something Scotland are used to and they will look to prevail.
The addition of a margin to the victory sees the prices rise for both nations. An Australian win of between 1-12 points stands at 2.60 with William Hill, while the same for Scotland is at $5.00. The favourite margin for victory, however, is a Wallabies win by 13+ points at $2.25. A big Scottish win sees the odds drastically rise to $13.00 for a 13+ point win for the home side. A draw stands at $29.00.
With a look back to that controversial quarter final loss for Scotland after a refereeing error, William Hill are offering prices on which team will be the last to score. That one-point win for Wallabies spurred them onto a place in the Rugby World Cup Final while it left the Scottish with questions that needed answering. Australia stand at $1.60 to be the last team to score with Scotland priced at $2.30. It could well be the deciding factor in this Test match.
