Spring actually begins on Thursday, making Saturday’s Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes day the first serious raceday of the spring in Melbourne.
This day has morphed into Cox Plate Preview Day in recent years, and has also shifted forward a week, with the winner of the Dato afforded a place in the elite Cox Plate field in seven weeks’ time.
Former Japanese galloper Tosen Stardom, now with local superhero DK Weir, has been heavily supported to win the 1600m main race and is in to $5.50 favourite in an open affair, just ahead of Miss Rose De Lago.
We’ve found a couple of horses at good value in the race, with Jacquinot Bay ($18) and Entirely Platinum ($14) (first emergency) both at attractive odds when markets open.
As usual on australiangambling.com.au, we’ve been through the field with a fine toothcomb to come up with ten horses we think are above their right odds. Last week, we found two winners and two placegetters from our ten, including Redzel at $6.
WATCH: We preview Cox Plate Preview Day
The list is below. It should be a good track with only a sprinkle of rain expected in the next couple of days. The rail is out 3m, which may favour leaders, and barrier positions and race pattern are things that you’ll need to consider. Watch the early races to see if there is any bias to front runners.
