One Australian racing punter has landed the collect of a lifetime, turning a $400 longshot quaddie into a collect of over $788,000 on last Saturday’s Moonee Valley meeting.
The quaddie, picking the winners of four nominated races on a racecard, is an Australian betting institution, with dividends paying anything from 100s of dollars to dividends of up to $1 million.
Pools for feature Saturday meetings traditionally exceed over $1 million, with Saturday’s Moonee valley pool on Super Tab reaching $1.578 million.
And when rough results occur, as they did on Saturday, successful punters can reap a windfall.
One Sportsbet punter took a $400 quaddie on just 12 combinations for a multiplied dividend of 3333 percent
Remarkably, he had the long-priced winner of the first leg, Merriest, one out, at odds of $26. He then had the three favourites in the second leg, with $2.70 chance Voodoo Lad saluting.
Things then got really interesting for the punter, who took The Cleaner and Awesome Rock in the main race, the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes. Awesome Rock won at odds of $31, putting this punter in line for a massive collect.
He plotted the path home with two Darren Weir trained runners, Tall Ship and Killarney Kid. Killarney Kid gave the no doubt excited punters few worries. He settled three back on the fence, got an easy run through at the top of the straight and ran down leader Lord Durante to win at odds of $5.50.
The dividend came up as $23,647.50, which when multiplied out came to $788,171.17 in what is perhaps the racing bet of the year.
Leg 1: Race 6 – 11 Merriest ($26).
Leg 2: Race 7 – 4. Keen Array, 1. Fast ‘n’ Rocking, 3. Voodoo Lad ($2.70)
Leg 3: Race 8 – 7. Awesome Rock ($31), 3. The Cleaner.
Leg 4: Race 9 – 2. Killarney Kid ($5.50), 1. Tall Ship.
