Sky Blues set to continue winning streak over Jets

Fri, Oct 28, 10:37am by Jake Equid

Preview: A-League Round Four: Newcastle Jets v Sydney FC

Date and Time: Saturday October 29, 5:35pm

Venue: McDonalds Jones Stadium, Newcastle

TV: Live on Fox Sports

Something that we wouldn’t have expected after two rounds is this match would be a clash of two top four teams. The Newcastle Jets will look to continue their surprising start to the season against Graham Arnold’s top-of-the-table Sydney FC on Saturday afternoon.

The betting market has remained largely the same throughout the week with Sydney being the only team with a perfect winning record to start the season they remain at $1.75 to make it four wins from four. The Jets opened at $4.40 but have drifted slightly to $4.50. The draw has also slid out from $3.70 to $3.80.

Sydney maintained their perfect record with a 1-0 away win over Wellington last week. There are a couple of stats that would have the coaching staff smiling with the team maintaining a clean sheet in all three of its matches so far.

The midfield, defence and goalkeeper Danny Vukovic can take a bow after consistently finding a way to stop the ball going in the back of their net. Plus, Sydney has also scored more goals (nine) than any other team.

As if the Jets needed any more hurdles in trying to get a result in this one but they’ll also have to do it without Andrew Nabbout and Lachlan Jackson. Nabbout in particular has been brilliant this season, providing a dynamic presence on the wing. Coach Mark Jones will have to come up with another avenue to attack.

The recent form has all been one-way traffic in this one with Newcastle not tasting victory against the Sky Blues in their past ten attempts, they have only two draws to show for their efforts.

I’m backing Sydney to continue on their merry way in this one. They’ve scored five of their nine goals in the last 20 minutes of matches so far this season which has lead coach Graham Arnold to give a massive pat on the back to his head trainer, Andrew Clark who has the boys fit and firing, perfect for Arnold’s new high-pressure style of defence.
