D-Day for both Victory and Wanderers in Premiership chase

Fri, Dec 9, 10:45am by Jake Equid

Preview: A-League Round Ten: Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne Victory

Date and Time: Saturday December 10, 7:50pm AEDT

Venue: ANZ Stadium, Sydney

TV: Live on Fox Sports

The Wanderers host the Victory at the most iconic football stadium in Australia on Saturday night, aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

The visitors come into this clash on the back of a frustrating 1-1 draw with Perth Glory last week, while the Wanderers registered their biggest win of the season with a 4-1 thumping of the Central Coast Mariners.

It’s been a solid start to the season for Victory, but now it’s time for Kevin Muscat’s side to make a move, with Melbourne City and Sydney FC beginning to create a gap at the top of the ladder.

Sitting in third spot with four wins, two draws and two losses from eight games, you get the feeling Victory haven’t really hit their straps as of yet this season.

The hosts finally discovered their goal-scoring form in storming past the Mariners last week and now they will be aiming avenge their 3-0 loss to Victory from a few weeks ago.

The Wanderers are yet to win a game at home this season and this is shown in the betting market. They opened at $2.40 at the start of the week but have drifted slightly to $2.45 with Melbourne also drifting from $2.75 to $2.80. The draw has remained steady at $3.40.

In huge selection news, star winger Marco Rojas, who is stating his claim as the best player in the league after yet another standout performance last week, was ruled out of this clash on Thursday with a hamstring injury. He pulled up sore after being substituted late against the Glory last week and couldn’t recover in time.

The visitors have dominated this fixture in recent times, losing just one of the past nine clashes between the two clubs. I’m backing that run to continue here with Western Sydney’s terrible home form to continue.
