A mid-winter mid-week Moonee Valley meeting is not usually the scene of much punting intrigue, but with the Melbourne metro jockeys’ premiership going down to the wire, Craig Williams and Dwayne Dunn are set to keep us entertained.
Williams was simply awesome at Flemington last Saturday, riding five winners to close within one of Dunn in the battle for the honour of being the most successful metro jockey in the 2015/16 season.
Williams has no less than nine rides booked for Wednesday and all of them are expected to be in single figures, with as many as four likely to start favourites in their races, including Magicus in R7 ($2.20) and Dulverton in Race 9 ($3).
Dunn has seven rides, two fewer than Williams, with three of them close to or equal favourites. The leadership heading into Saturday’s meeting at Caulfield could well be decided by which of Dulverton and Maraudamiss ($3.20) wins the last.
“Williams is in devastating form and has the momentum heading towards the end of the season. Dunn can’t be written off, he’s had another great year and with six meetings to go it really is anyone’s title,’’ Sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen said,
Dulverton ($3.10 – William Hill), an impressive winner at Sandown last time, is one of two bets of the days for us, with the other one coming in the first race of the day, Streets of Liberty ($3.40 – Sportsbet).
The one which looks the best value of the day is last start Moonee Valley winner Petite’s Reward ($6.50), who has three wins from six starts at this track and distance.
