The NRL now has only three Rounds remaining of the regular season. Last weekend’s Round 23 saw the race for the finals blown wide open with a number of crucial wins and big upsets.
Cronulla’s dip in form continued as they were beaten by the Dragons and the Storm were taken down by the Raiders to dent both those sides hopes of the minor premiership. Four sides are in a battle royale for eighth position on the ladder with possibly even seventh-placed Penrith still in that fight. Round 24 has all the potential to be another cracker.
Broncos v Bulldogs, Thursday August 18, 7:50pm
The Round kicks off in Brisbane on Thursday night as the Broncos host the Canterbury Bulldogs. Both of these sides are in form with the home side on a two match winning streak and the Bulldogs looking for a fourth-straight victory. Of the two teams neither will gain much more than momentum from this match with their positions in the top eight and top four, respectively, fairly safe. That should, however not detract from what will be a great match up. Brisbane are favourites with William Hill at $1.48 compared to Canterbury who are priced at $2.65 for the win.
Bet of the Match: Bulldogs to Win at $2.65
Panthers v Wests Tigers, Friday August 19, 7:50pm
Penrith are on the cusp of securing finals footy and a win against the Tigers will go a long to solidify their seventh place on the ladder. Wests, however, have finals aspirations of their own and will be desperate for a win that keeps them in the fight for the top eight for another week. Sitting just one point behind the eighth-placed Titans and two behind their opponents, the Panthers. The Tigers need this victory and will be looking to bounce back from a devastating one-point loss to the Titans in Round 23. William Hill price a Penrith win at $1.30 but Wests will be looking to overturn a price of $3.50 and keep their hopes alive
Bet of the Match: Tigers to Win at $3.50
Cowboys v Warriors, Saturday August 20, 7:30pm
The other big game of the Round sees the North Queensland Cowboys host the New Zealand Warriors. Both head into the match on the back of losses although the Cowboys slump is much more significant with having lost their last three matches. Despite this they are heavy favourites with William Hill priced at $1.25. They will need Johnathan Thurston to regain his form quickly if they are to end the Warriors hopes of the Finals and reinvigorate their push to the Finals. The Warriors are priced at $4.00 and will need a huge performance if they are to have any hope of reaching the top eight at the end of the season.
Bet of the Match: Cowboys to Win at $1.25
