NFL football is nearing the middle of the season and yet we are still getting the underdogs covering a lot of the betting lines. Favourites were able to cover the spread in just five of 15 Week 6 games and six underdogs won outright.
In week seven, four teams are favored by at least a touchdown, including one road team, the Patriots ($1.32) who travel to Pittsburgh ($3.55) and the line is at a touchdown. The Pats are starting to look dangerous with Tom Brady back at the helm, they won 35 to 18 against the Bengals last week, last season’s AFC North Champions.
Once again, the poor old Cleveland Browns ($4.25) have the least hope of any team going into week seven according to the bookies. Cincinnati are $1.24 to be the latest team to send the Dogs packing. Cleveland remain winless after six games, the line is at a large 10 points.
There were a couple of key injuries to take note of from week six, the likes of Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, his Baltimore counterpart Joe Flacco and Green Bay running back Eddie Lacy.
Week seven kicked off on Friday morning AEDT when the Bears travelled to Green Bay and were beaten 26-10.
Two teams will have the bye this week (Dallas and Carolina). Here are the three best bets for week seven of the 2016 NFL season:
Oakland Raiders @ Jacksonville Jaguars, EverBank Field, Jacksonville –Monday October 24, 4:00am AEDT
The Raiders head to Florida with plenty of confidence after three road wins already this season. The home side have already dropped two games at home.
The Jaguars’ offence has had a tough time of it this season and only seems to only thrive when the game is over, ranking 28th in total yards, and they won’t be able to keep up with the Raiders, who shouldn’t have much trouble moving the ball.
The Raiders already won in New Orleans, Tennessee and Baltimore, and Jacksonville is worse than all of those teams.
BEST BET: Raiders to cover the line of 1.5: $1.92
Washington Redskins @ Detroit Lions , Ford Field, Detroit Monday October 24, 4:00am AEDT
Washington are back to playing like the team that won the NFC East last season after winning four games in a row. Next up they face the Lions who’ve won two straight games themselves after strong safety Rafael Bush made a victory-sealing interception last week against the Rams.
Since losing consecutive games to first-place teams, Washington’s four in a row has including two road games.
The Redskins are 5-0 against the spread in their last five road games, and they should put up a lot of points against a Detroit defense that just gave up four touchdowns to the Rams.
Minnesota Vikings @ Philadelphia Eagles, Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia –Monday October 24, 4:00am
The Vikings are the best team in the NFC at the moment but next they face another team who are in playoff contention and have a good home record, the Eagles.
Despite suffering consecutive road losses, Philadelphia are still playoff contenders, and they could bounce back win a win when they return home. The Vikings are the NFC’s best team, but they aren’t going to remain undefeated against the spread all season long.
Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford is having a great season and currently ranks right at the top in the rankings. The defence that he is coming up against however has only allowed 13 total points in their two home games and the Eagles will be hoping to force their former quarterback to have one of his worst games of 2016.
On the other side of the ball, Minnesota could have a hard time overcoming a poor performance from the quarterback with the worst rushing attack in the NFL.
BEST BET: Eagles to cover the line of 2.5: $2.02
