Two teams with plenty to prove to themselves and their die hard supporters meet on Monday Night Football. 2016 has not been a fine year for either the South Sydney Rabbitohs or the Manly Sea Eagles. Both teams are languishing in the bottom half of the ladder and well off the pace for the top eight. With pride at stake, however, expect this clash to be no less intense despite their struggles this year.
Manly have created a mini revival in recent weeks as they look to salvage something from their season. Two wins in their last two matches means that they head into this clash as favourites with William Hill priced at $1.70. Things may well be finally starting to gel for a Manly side that have struggled throughout the season for consistency.
On the other hand South Sydney’s woes will not relent as they have lost six games straight. The calibre of player in theRabbitohs squad makes it all the more difficult to understand their current predicament. With only two wins in their last ten matches William Hill have them priced at 2.15 to overturn the odds and the Seas Eagles.
William Hill are expecting it to be a close match with the shortest odds on a win of between 1-12 points for either side. Manly are priced at $3.10 with South Sydney at $3.50. A big win of 13+ points stands at $3.75 for the Sea Eagles and $4.50 for the Rabbitohs.
Tom Trbojevic and Jorge Taufua share the plaudits as favourites on William Hill for the 1st Try Scorer and Match Winner Double. They are priced at $12.00 to score first and for Manly to go and claim the victory. Whilst Alex Johnston tops the odds for the Rabbitohs for the same albeit with a South Sydney win at $13.00 followed closely by Joe Burgess ($15.00) and Cody Walker ($18.00).
Cody Walker and Tom Trbojevic can be placed head to head on Willliam Hill for Most Tries scored. It is the Sea Eagles man who dominates on paper at $2.30 to Walker’s $5.00. Whilst nothing can separate Alex Johnston and Jorge Taufuafor Most Tries as they both stand at $3.05. With Manly as stand out favourites do not be surprised to see plenty of tries from them.
Not to detract from the try scoring abilities of the backs but let’s not forget that the big men up front get across the line for their fair share of tries. For Any Prop to Score A Try, William Hill is offering $2.25 or $1.60 for it not to occur. Whilst Second Rowers are priced at $1.85 to score or $1.90 to fail to do so.
These two sides will be desperate for a victory and being so close on the ladder will mean that this could well be a tense affair. The quality across the squads, however, should allow for some fantastic Monday Night Football.
