The #1 Resource for aussie gambling!

It’s Patrick Dangerfield’s Brownlow Medal

Sun, Jul 31, 1:05pm by Staff Writer

Dangerfield-325Following his sensational 33 disposals and three goals on Friday night against the Bulldogs, Sportsbet has seen enough and declared Patrick Dangerfield the 2016 Brownlow medallist, paying out $632,000 to over 3000 punters.  It’s a surprise move given their recent form in early payouts.

In 2010, they famously paid out on Richmond winning the wooden spoon after the Tigers started the season with nine straight losses before a late-season surge saw them finish above eventual wooden spooners West Coast.  Crownbet went even earlier last year when they paid out on Nat Fyfe to win the Charlie after only eight rounds which was a brazen call considering how often he visits the tribunal.  It proved the right move though when Fyfe saluted by three votes over fellow West Australian and 2014 winner Matt Priddis.

Dangerfield escaped suspension against the Saints in Round 14 when he was involved in a tangle with St Kilda’s Jarryn Geary and as long as he keeps his nose clean in the next four weeks then surely he’ll be wearing the medal for football’s top honour in the last week in September.  Averaging over 32 disposals, he’s been the standout player in the league this season and will forever be known as the greatest free agency pickup in history.

Starting the season as a $9.00 chance, a string of best on ground performances saw Dangerfield come into $1.68 before Sportsbet made the decision to payout early.
