Eagles and Hawks square off in Round 22 blockbuster

Thu, Aug 18, 8:24pm by Staff Writer

West Coast v Hawthorn

Time: 8.10pm

Date: Friday August 19

Venue: Domain Stadium

TV: Live on Channel 7, Fox Footy

The penultimate round of the season kicks off in the West on Friday Night and what a way to do it with the Grand Final rematch. The Eagles had a season-defining win last week defeating the Giants by the smallest of margins while the Hawks bounced back to beat the Roos by 39 points. Strap yourselves in, this should be an epic!

The punters aren’t sure which way this one will go and it’s been priced as a real toss-of-the-coin affair. The Eagles hold slight favouritism with Sportsbet at $1.88 with the Hawks at $1.95.

There were only eight seconds left on the clock when star ruckman Nic Natanui goaled to give the Eagles what could turn out to be a season-defining victory over the Giants last week. Speaking of Nic Nat, he has revitalised his club since returning from injury but he’ll need to be at his best to keep that going against the best in the business. Josh Kennedy kicked three last week but he hasn’t had a good time of it against this opposition, booting only one goal in the past two games. He even had to deal with some Bronx cheers in last year’s decider. Hawthorn returned to the winners circle last week with a cruisy win over North after leading at every change. A win here would all but secure the minor premiership, a feat they’ve not achieved since 2013. This ground doesn’t hold too many fears for them, winning two of their past three, although they did drop the qualifying final to this opponent last year. However, they went on to win the preliminary final against cross-town rivals Fremantle before getting the ultimate revenge over the Eagles in the big one.

The Hawks have won eight of the past ten between these sides and I’m backing that to continue here in what should be an absolute classic.

BEST BET: Hawthorn to win $1.95
