The second matchday of the UEFA Champions League begins during the early hours of Wednesday morning AEST and concludes on Thursday morning. Eight games will be played Wednesday morning with another eight to be played Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, the Champions, Real Madrid travel to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund who are coming off a 6-0 win against Legia Warsaw on matchday one. Real also won their opening match but they left it late against Sporting Lisbon. They trailed 1-0 for over 40 minutes before Ronaldo found the net in the 89th minute and then Morata stole the points from Sporting in the 4th minute of added time.
Real are slight underdogs in this one as their domestic form has also been patchy, they dropped points to Las Palmas on Sunday. Borussia Dortmund is at $2.50 with Real Madrid at $2.70. The draw is at $3.40.
Leicester make their home debut in the competition when they host Porto on Wednesday AEST. They are $2.25 to win, the draw and a Porto win are at the odds of $3.25. Leicester started their campaign in perfect fashion with a 3-0 away win at Brugge but lost 4-1 to Manchester United on Saturday in the English Premier League.
The highlight of the Thursday morning matches will be the battle between German champion Bayern Munich and last season’s Champions league runner-up Atletico Madrid. Both clubs are coming off wins on matchday one, the German club destroyed Rostov 5-0 in their opener at home in an offensive display that has the team back at its best. Atletico won 1-0 at PSV Eindhoven, although the win came largely at the hands of their goalie, Jan Oblak who saved a penalty.
Bayern Munich will go in as favourites ($2.50) but Atletico ($2.90) will be hard to beat at home, the draw is at $3.20. The clubs famously met in the semifinal last season which saw the Spanish club victorious on goal differential – also thanks to a penalty save from Oblak.
Things don’t get any easier for Celtic were battered 7-0 by Barcelona in their opening match. They now face Man City at home who have won six from six matches domestically to start the season and thumped Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 in their European opener. City are heavy favourites at $1.33 with the hosts at $8 and the draw at $5.50.
