Hawthorn continued their march towards an historic four-peat by winning their eighth straight match against Richmond last Sunday.
They now lead the chasing pack by two games and with only five rounds remaining are all but assured of a top two finish. Two clubs who are right in the middle of that pack, which contains consists of six teams, all of whom are on the same amount of premiership points meet in the match of the round on Friday night. It’s Geelong and the Western Bulldogs and that’s where we start our bets of the round.
Geelong v Western Bulldogs – Friday 29 July 7:50pm
It’s a classic eight-point game when the Cats host the injury plagued Bulldogs on Friday night. Both clubs are right in the running for a top four finish with the winner shooting up to 2nd on the ladder while the loser will be down to 7th. The home side will be further boosted by two of their favourite sons in Jimmy Bartel and Corey Enright notching up magnificent milestones. All the money has been with Geelong to win their tenth in a row in this fixture, which has seen Crownbet reel them into $1.30, with the Dogs friendless at $3.60.
Geelong will win but they are too short for us at AustralianGambling.com.au however there is decent value at the line of Geelong to cover to line of 21.5 which pays $1.92. We are steering clear of the head-to-head market..
North Melbourne v St Kilda- Saturday 30 July – 7:25pm
The round of milestones continues on Saturday night and they don’t come any bigger than this one. Brent ‘Boomer’ Harvey will break the all-time VFL/AFL games record when he runs out for the Kangas for the 427th time. An incredible feat for a skinny, 172cm boy from Preston and it’s for this reason that I’m backing the Kangas. The club and his teammates will be desperate to celebrate such a momentous occasion in style.
It won’t be an easy game though as the Saints toppled the Dogs last week and have now won five of their last six and the boys from Moorabbin haven’t ruled out finals yet. I’m taking North to win at $1.55, the Saints are at $2.45 thanks to Sportsbet.
Melbourne v Gold Coast – Sunday 31 July, 1.10pm
The Dees were gallant in defeat in the west last week and were incredibly unlucky not to get the four points. They had 91 more disposals and 29 more inside 50’ but somehow managed to lose by a goal. They come up against a Gold Coast side whose had a season to forget but have shown a bit more fight in the last five weeks, winning three games in that time.
Their tall forwards had a day out last week against Fremantle with Sam Day and Tom Lynch booting four majors each.
All the money has been with the Dees to win which has seen Sportsbet reel them into $1.17 with the Suns rank outsiders at $5.00. What interests me though is the line market and I think that the line at Sportsbet is way overs (32.5) so I’m backing the Suns to cover that at $1.91
